On the fifth ballot of voting, the Rev’d. Cynthia Harvey has been elected as bishop at the South Central Jurisdictional Conference. The Rev’d. Harvey currently serves as the Associate General Secretary at UMCOR (The United Methodist Committee on Relief). She was an endorsed candidate of the Jurisdictional Women’s Leadership Team, as well as the Nebraska Annual Conference. She was also affirmed as a candidate by MARCHA (Methodists Associated Representing the Cause of Hispanic Americans).
Rev’d. Harvey received 165 votes, and 144 were needed for election. She is the first bishop elected. There will be two more episcopal elections at this SCJ Conference.
