On the 11th ballot of voting, the Rev’d. Gary Mueller has been elected as bishop at the South Central Jurisdictional Conference meeting in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Rev’d. Mueller was an endorsed candidate from the North Texas Annual Conference, where he currently serves as the senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Plano, Texas. He received 170 votes on the ballot, and 152 were needed for election.
The Rev’d. Mueller is the second bishop elected at the jurisdictional conference. Earlier in the day, the Rev’d. Cynthia Harvey was elected to the episcopal office as well. The SCJ Conference will elect three bishops in total, meaning that there will be one further election before the conference concludes later this week.
